What is Breathwork?

Breathwork is an active meditation using a specific-two part breath.

This practice is done lying down, with a blanket and an eye mask, and is accompanied by a playlist to support you in going deeper.

By deeply oxygenating the body, breathwork moves us into a deeply relaxed and altered state in which we are able to perceive, feel and gently release the energy and emotion at the root of our fear, exhaustion and loneliness, creating space for us to tap into deep connection, love and joy.

How Does Breathwork Work?

Because the lungs are directly linked to the nervous system, breathwork allows us to regulate the nervous system, communicate safety to the body, and shift into an altered state of awareness, so that we aren’t just thinking about being grounded, joyful, and relaxed- we feel that way.

Breathwork moves us out of a chronic state of fight-or-flight in which we are tensing our body, holding our breath, and repressing our emotions, and supports us to instead gently feel and release the unfelt emotions and stuck energy at the root of our fear, anxiety and loneliness.

Through breathwork we connect with ourselves and tap into deep connection, love and joy.

What Does Breathwork Feel Like?

While everyone's experience of breathwork is a little bit different, it is very common to feel tingly, and energized as you deeply oxygenate your body, and you may feel strong emotions arise as you breathe and drop deeply into your body. At the end of the practice it is common to feel deeply relaxed.

What Do I Need To Prepare?

To prepare for your session, please wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing, have a journal, pen and some water nearby. Be sure that your computer is fully charged and plugged in (no iPhone cameras please) and that your phone is silenced for our time together.

The active breath will be practiced lying down, so make sure you have a comfy space for this portion of the session, as well as somewhere to place your computer. A yoga mat and blanket or a bed is perfect, and an eye mask can support you in deepening into your experience. Simply make sure that you're somewhere cozy where you will not be disturbed.

I recommend not eating a big meal right before session,  and to plan to have small snack handy for yourself to enjoy post session so that you can be as comfortable as possible during the active portion of the breathwork.

Lastly give yourself time before and after our session to create sacred space for practice, drop in and connect with your intention for our time together, and to allow for gentle transition and integration.

Who Can Practice Breathwork?

SISTER SISTER welcomes people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and racial backgrounds. If you are pregnant, have a history of seizures, schizophrenia, bi-polar, epilepsy, heart conditions or any other significant pre-existing health condition(s), please consult your health care provider(s), and make this information known to Treska prior to your participation.

Please note that you must be 18 years or older to book a session.

Should I Do Anything Specific After My Breathwork Session?

I always encourage clients to keep a journal nearby for the insights, images, ideas, memories, and dreams that tend to surface during the hours following a breathwork session.

Additionally I recommend giving yourself time before and after session to integrate and transition (I recommend not scheduling events right after your session) taking extra care to move gently throughout your day, resting, making sure to hydrate, and having a nourishing snack or meal soon after session.
